February – the month of love, or so we’ve been told! Like you, I appreciate special times when expressions of love are given more forethought and planning.  That is a good thing for marriages and any love relationship.

Whom do you love?  Whom do you love the most?   Without a doubt, my best friend on earth is my husband.  I love him more than anyone else I know.  But, at the same time, he must always be second to my love and affection for Jesus Christ.  If I ever get that skewed, in a heartbeat my husband goes from being my best friend to being a competitor, an idol, my master or any number of less-than-best, partner relationships.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.”  Like all of God’s promises, He says what He means, and means what He says.  When I put Him first in my attention and affection, all other relationships and activities take on their proper meaning and priority.  There is no confusion over what is most important or requires my energy and time.  When Christ is first, the other things in my life slide into place in a seemingly miraculous manner.  When I take my eyes off Him – even for a short while – Satan is right there to stir up confusion and frustration.  Satan is always at hand to upset the priorities God would have for us.

My challenge for you is to consider with care and forethought your love priorities.  Do you love Christ more than all of these?  If you are hesitant to answer that question with a strong “YES,” then now is the time to commit to “seeking His Kingdom first.”  But if you can honestly say that loving Him first is the desire and focus of your life, then when times of frustration over priorities occur, remember who is making the hinges squeak.  Don’t let Satan win!  Put him in his place and recommit to seeking Christ first!

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
